Intro to US History

Today in class we started to talk about US history. We started with talking about where the British, French and Native Americans were. The British occupied the east coast while the French and the Native Americans shared in the Ohio River Valley. The French and the Native Americans worked well with each other. They traded furs and became allies. The French started to set up trading posts and forts. Everything was working well between the French and the Native Americans until the British started to move west. The British wanted to take control of the Ohio Valley which was occupied by the French. So, the two countries started a war between each other. The British soldiers had red coats, more ammo, and better training. On the other hand, the French had camo uniforms that the Native Americans gave them, less ammo, and less training. Needless to say, the British won. The French ceded their land and started to move west of the Mississippi River. The British had rules on the land. The Proclamation of 1763 said that no one can move out west. However, people still did. The king then started placing taxes on goods to make money. The king created the Sugar Act which put tax on sugar and molasses. Then, he created the Stamp Act which says everyone should buy a stamp to buy printed goods. The king also created the Quartering Act which basically says that British soldiers can stay in your house and use your stuff. For the icing on the cake, the king created the Townshend Act which put a tax on paint, glass, paper, and tea.
